About us

Marcus Friend is a Chartered Surveyor BSc (Hons) Build Surv MRPSA MASI MRICS RICS Registered Valuer.

Friend Associates was founded by Marcus Friend and has been carrying out various types of surveys for over 20 years.

Originally Marcus worked in property management for David D James FRICS in Mere Green, Sutton Coldfield as Trainee Surveyor in 1988 and was quickly thrown in at the deep end. Marcus completed a Btec ONC (Building Studies) part time within 1 year.

In 1990 Marcus moved on to fill the role as a Building Inspector for Birmingham City Council, Housing Improvement Division (HID) and was and still is the only known Building Inspector to gain full sponsorship for both a Btec HNC (Building Studies) and a Bsc degree in Building Surveying.

After joining the Architects & Surveying Institute (ASI) in 1997, Marcus completed his degree in Building Surveying (Bsc Hons) and became a member of The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).  Finally Marcus then turned his attention to The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and became a member in 2002. Marcus became an RICS Registered Valuer in 2010. Marcus is also a member of the RPSA.

Friend Associates provide a traditional ‘hands on’ approach.   In the first instance we offer advice and guidance steering clients towards the right service.  We then confirm instructions clearly and ensure the client is getting what they need and then to act quickly and provide a thorough, efficient professional service.  Our service is bespoke to meet your needs as far as possible.

Our emphasis is on a good, friendly, professionally tailored, quality service with an objective to provide all clients with an efficient and positive response to their needs.  Our focus is on taking care of you.  Friend Associates is a small family run business.

We work with a diverse portfolio of residential property and have a proven track record of delivering high quality surveys.  We offer a wide range of report formats to suit every property, every budget and every client's specific needs.  Our surveys include photographs to help explain property defects together with the solution and office estimates (where requested).
